Now Contact and Now Up-to-Date

Power On Software

For those Mac users who have been 'round the block with Now Software, you already know how cool a tool Now Contact and Now Up-to-Date are. If you don't, let me tell you a little about it.

Now Up-to-Date and Now Contact are two independent yet linked software packages which allow you to track your contacts on one hand (Duh!) and calendar functions on the other. We've had the opportunity to play with many different programs which claim to maintain this information, but nothing, to date, compares to Power On's solution.

But the keeping of appointments and contacts can be done by many products available. Now easily passes by all the other products with the ability to maintain the calendars and contacts for many different people within an organization. A polite company, Power On doesn't charge more for the package to operate as a server -- and the software is reasonably priced at less than $100 per seat.

One of the other noticible differences with PowerOn's Now Contact and Now Up-to-Date package is the speed at which it responds. As an example, my current contact database consists of 1725 contacts. An average day on my calendar has five entries and at least another five "to-do's." In addition, my co-workers maintain equally sized databases of information and we share our calendars on a master calendar which can be viewed by various workstations for an easy view of everyone's availability. Responsiveness is, by far, the best we've seen out of any product of the type.

Not to be forgotten, nor to be relegated to the position of a useless feature, both packages allow web-publishing. Why, you may ask, would you want this? Imagine being able to publish your calendar to the internet, allowing people to know your schedule or the schedule of your company or organization.

In closing, let me say that this is one of the best software packages ever developed, in my humble opinion. Given a limited amount of money, there are five pieces of software I just couldn't live without. Power On Software's Now Up-to-Date and Contact very high on my list of "can't live without" software for my Mac.

Suggestions to the guys at PowerOn: Contact and Up-to-Date used to be cross-platform, as I recall. I'd like to see this happen again, since I haven't been impressed with the performance of your product, Planner.
