IntelliMouse with IntelliEye

Microsoft's Mouse Site

What can you say about a mouse?

In the case of the IntelliMouse with IntelliEye for Macintosh, quite a bit. But why bore you with a long recitation of facts and figures when it comes to the basic input device for a computer, second-place only to your keyboard?

If you've looked, with lustful eyes, at those PC users who have two, or even three, button mice and wondered when your turn is coming, you may lust no more. While giving you a great programmable interface to manage your buttons and scroll-wheel, the IntelliMouse gives you something much more valuable: NO MORE MOUSE BALLS!

Yup, you heard me right. No mouse balls... Instead, the IntelliMouse with IntelliEye uses a fancy set of electronic guts to send out the proverbial beam-of-light to sample your mouse surface, providing feedback to the mouse and allowing your cursor to move across the screen. Oh, did I mention, "with effortless ease?"

I've used many mice over a 20-year experience in the computer industry. On the WinTel platform I've always been a fan of the Microsoft PS-2 series of mouse known as the IntelliMouse. It a fits-your-hand-well, no-nonsense, heavy-enough-to-stay-on-your-pad kind of implement which has a long life-span. The only issue ever to be had with this series was the dirty mouse balls which inevitably cropped up. Clean the ball, clean the well, clean the pad - you know the drill. Throw all of those headaches to the wind and get on with life. Pick up a Microsoft IntelliMouse with IntelliEye and call it a day.

For those of you who may accuse me of falling in step with the Microsoft camp, I simply say that this is one heck of a product - enough for me to overcome my attitude regarding their business practices and support this fine device. Now, if they would just give Mac users MS Access with our MS Office install, I'd be a little more friendly toward that set of products.
